rowenta-proWeight is what makes an iron feels solid and makes the job of pressing easier. You are supposed to let the iron to do the job rather than relying on your own strength to exert pressure to get rid of wrinkles when ironing. In that sense, the Rowenta Professional Iron is one such heavy iron with superb handling that will make ironing less of a chore.

The Positives

This Rowenta iron is not for those who prefer light irons. It has a large tank that can fill up to 12.7 ounces of water and combined with the iron itself, it can be rather heavy. But the weight is also what makes this a solid iron that gets rid of wrinkles with one swipe. While you would be wasting your enery going over an area a few times to get the desired effect with lighter irons, the Rowenta DX-8800 Professional Iron can do it in one stroke. In other words, it can potentially cut down on your ironing time with increased efficiency.

As with most Rowenta irons, the steam function for this model is also excellent. You get plentiful of steam which combined with the stainless steel soleplate, it glides superbly well over the fabric you are ironing. This takes away the weight somewhat with its slickness. It heats up quickly so that even if the auto-off feature kicks in when you have not finished with your chore, it is ready for ironing in no time at all.

The Rowenta Professional Iron has a soft grip handle that does make a difference if you have a big pile of laundry to go over each time. Compared to the usual plastic handle of most irons, the soft grip handle gives a better grip and is more comfortable to hold.

The Negatives

The temperature dial is somewhat hard to adjust as it doesn't turn smoothly. However, it could be designed as such to take away the common problem of accidentally knocking and turning it with your knuckles when you grip the handle or while ironing.

As mentioned, the Rowenta Professional Iron is one heavy iron, which does not suit people with weak wrist or arm. I find that it is even heavier than the Rowenta Focus and personally, I do prefer a not so heavy model. But heaviness has its advantages and it does help in the ironing process.

Apart from that, there are really few complaints that you can have with the Rowenta Professional Iron, unless it breaks down on you after a short period of usage. This iron works marvellously but the problem is people tend to complain about its short life span with leaks being a common issue. However, the one that I tested was more than a year old and it is still in perfect working order. Perhaps the owner has been taking good care of the iron with the water tank always emptied after each use.

Price

Amazon has a good price for the Rowenta DX-8800 Professional Iron at time of review at around $70. Usually, it retails at a price range of $90 to $115. If you are going to spend at least $90 for an iron, you would definitely want something that lasts. For this iron, durability may be an issue for some but the upside is many others have had good experiences with it. It is a 5-star iron in terms of performance and that is why many have stuck with the Rowenta brand all through the years.
